Do you have what it takes to compete in the realm of King Neptune? The battleground of competition will be fierce, causing participants to dig down deep inside and rise above whatever stands in their way. The Virginia Beach Sports Center sets the stage for athletes to test their will at the highest level.
This state-of-the-art facility will host a diverse roster of sporting events and tournaments when it opens in November 2020. The venue is located across the street from the Virginia Beach Convention Center and just steps away from local shops, restaurants and attractions, including the beautiful boardwalk and beaches of the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.
The Virginia Beach Sports Center (VBSC) boasts 285,000 square feet of custom-configurable space, including 9 Field Hockey courts, 12 basketball courts, 24 volleyball courts, a 200 meter, hydraulically banked track, 64 wrestling mats, and seating for 5,000 spectators. Additionally, VBSC provides 5 meeting rooms and a 400-seat kitchen/concessions area.
The Virginia Beach Sports Center is managed by Eastern Sports Management (ESM) based in Fredericksburg, Virginia. ESM’s management portfolio consists of venues in Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee.
Virginia Beach Sports Center is currently looking for an Usher. The Usher provides all guests with direction that assists them in enjoying their experience at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. The staff member is expected to provide excellent guest service to all guests and to always display great knowledge of Virginia Beach Sports Center programs. This part-time position reports directly to the Operations Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitor and limit player boxes to players, coaches, and officials
Respond to all incidents, accidents, injuries, and altercations
Complete and file required reports
Keep Manager on Duty informed of issues and updates
Monitor playing fields and courts
Monitor facility and enforce Virginia Beach Sport Center rules
Provide courteous and friendly guest service to all Virginia Beach Sport Center guests
Be knowledgeable of all Virginia Beach Sport Center prices, leagues, and events
Fill out incident and accident reports and submit to proper Manager (Manager on Duty/Human Resources)
Maintain confidentiality with guest and employee information
Resolve all guest concerns and complaints and/or direct to appropriate Manager
Know and enforce Virginia Beach Sport Center policies and procedures
Tour and register potential guest as members
Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Must be extremely professional in appearance, demeanor, and communication
Must be detail-oriented and have outstanding organizational skills
Must be able to handle high volume, difficult and stressful situations
Able to multi-task and prioritize
Must be able to work well in a group setting
Must be able to work irregular shifts to include nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
Manage the response to in-person, telephone and email inquiries about programs, scheduling, and memberships
Provide prospective members with an enthusiastic and informative tour of the facility
Assist with the distribution of passes, fliers, and other materials to create traffic flow of prospective members
Develop relationships and encourage member referrals
Attend required meetings, trainings and other scheduled activities
Work together with all departments as a team
Able to work under pressure and be decisive
Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed, required, or assigned by the Operations Director and/or the General Manager
Requirements

Education and/or Experience: No prior experience or training.
Language Skills: Bi-lingual including ASL is preferred. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.).
